National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation & Museology (NMIHACM) is a deemed University under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, located in the National Museum, New Delhi. The University offers courses in (i) History of Art, (ii) Conservation & Restoration of Works of Art and (iii) Museology, for award of MA. and Ph.D. Degrees. It also awards eight Merit Scholarships each @ Rs. 40,000/- per annum and 08 Merit-cum-Means Scholarships each @ Rs.12,000/- per annum.
Applications in prescribed form (to be downloaded from www.nmi.gov.in) are invited from eligible candidates for admission to M.A. and Ph.D. courses for the academic session starting in August, 2011, as per the following eligibility criteria:
► M.A. (History of Art) : Seats-25. A Graduate Degree from a recognized University with minimum 50% marks.
Desirable – Background in Social Sciences, Liberal Arts or Fine Arts.
► M.A. (Conservation) : Seats-15. A Graduate Degree with minimum 50% marks in any of the following subjects -Chemistry/ Physics/Geology/Botany/Zoology/ Computer Science/Fine Arts/ History/History of Art/Architecture/Archaeology/Museology/ Designing or a Diploma recognized as equivalent to graduate degree in any of these fields.
► M.A. (Museology) : Seats-15. B.A./B.Sc. (Honours) or B.A./ B.Sc./B.F.A. (3 years) with minimum 50% marks in any discipline under Humanities and Social Sciences/Science.
Desirable – Background/PG Diploma in subjects related to History of Art and Museum Studies.
► Ph.D. (History of Art) : Seats-4. Any person holding a Master Degree with minimum 55% marks, in History of Art from this Institute or Master Degree in History of Art/History/ Archaeology/ Anthropology/Aesthetics or its equivalent from a recognized University/deemed University
► Ph.D. (Conservation) : Seats-4. Any person holding a Master Degree with minimum 55% marks, in Conservation from this Institute or Master Degree in Chemistry/Physics/Life Sciences/ Museology/Architecture or its equivalent from a recognized University/deemed University.
► Ph.D. (Museology) : Seats-4. Any person holding a Master Degree with minimum 55% marks, in Museology from this Institute or Master Degree in Museology/History/Ancient Indian History & Archaeology or its equivalent from a recognized University/ deemed University.
Desirable Qualifications for both M.A. and Ph.D. courses: Knowledge of one classical/foreign language such as Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Latin, German, French, Italian, etc.
- Last date for receipt of applications for MA and Ph.D. courses is 23.06.2011.
- Date of written test for MA courses followed by Interview:
MA (History of Art): 04.07.2011 at 10.30 am
MA (Conservation): 05.07.2011 at 10.30 am
MA (Museology): 06.07.2011 at 10.30 am
