Eligibility Criteria
A candidate intending to appear in the DURAT 2017 for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and the M.Phil Programmes shall have to obtain at least 55% marks in

OR equivalent grade point in the Masters Degree, in which he/ she intends to appear in the DURAT.

A relaxation upto 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade in the qualifying degree is allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) and the Differently-Abled category.

Application Procedure

  1. Online submission of the DURAT 2017 Application Form will begin from 10.2017. Application for DURAT 2017 is through online mode only. No other means of application is accepted. The last date for submission of Application is 20.11.2017 (upto 5.00 P.M).
  2. For submission of the Online Application Form, the intending candidates are advised to follow the following instructions:
  3. The candidate shall be required to register in the portaldibru.online by entering Full Name, User Name, Password and a Mobile Number to login. The candidate will get an “Activation Code” in the mobile which is to be entered for Activation.
  4. After Activation, the candidate shall be required to log in with his/ her User Name and Password and shall be required to fill in the Online Application Form with correct and appropriate information.
  5. The applicant shall be required to pay the DURAT Fee of Rs. 600/- only through the online payment gateway by using Debit Card/Credit Card/ Internet Banking during the submission of the form. No other mode of payment is acceptable.
  6. The applicant can save and review the information entered before submission, which can be edited on subsequent login. However, after submission, editing of information shall not be possible.
  7. On submission of the Online Application Form by an applicant, an Admit Card with a Unique Number shall be generated against each successful submission of Application. The Candidate shall have to take a print out of the Admit Card and bring it to the Examination Hall on the Date of the Test for verification.
  8. The Submission of Online Application Form shall be automatically closed after the last date.
  9. There shall be no alternative procedure for Application for appearing in the DURAT 2017 and the University shall not receive the Application Fee except through the procedure mentioned at (b) 3. above.

Note: As per the latest UGC Guidelines, DURAT is exempted only for the NET- JRF and M.Phil (in regular mode and in the relevant subject only) qualified Candidates.

M.Phil in Economics for the Session 2015-2017

Applications are invited for admission to the two-year M.Phil. Programme in Economics for the Session 2015-2017. The number of seats is 15 (inclusive of reservation for all categories).

Eligibility: Any candidate who has passed the M.A./M.Sc. Examination in Economics of this University with 55% marks in aggregate (SC/ST with 50% marks) or with 60% marks in aggregate of any other recognized University is eligible to apply to the M.Phil Programme. Students, likely to complete M.A./M.Sc. Part-II Examination in Economics by June 30, 2015, are also eligible to apply. Their admission will be provisional subject to satisfying minimum eligibility criterion by August 31, 2015. Selection will be on the basis of an entrance test followed by an interview. Candidates who have qualified in NET, SET or equivalent national level examination are exempt from the entrance test, but not from the interview. The candidates, found eligible through entrance test and those exempted from entrance test, would be invited to submit a Statement clarifying their Expression of Interest on which a final interview will be conducted. The list of finally selected candidates (on the basis of final interview only) would be posted in the University web-site and Departmental Notice Board.

  • Microeconomic Theory: Consumer Behaviour, Theory of Firm, Analysis of Market Structure, Theory of Distribution, General Equilibrium, Welfare Economics, Asymmetric Information, Public Goods & Externalities;
  • Macroeconomic Theory: National Income Accounting, Aggregate Demand-Simple Keynesian Model, IS-LM Model, Interaction Between Aggregate Demand & Aggregate Supply- Short-run & Long-run Equilibrium, Classical Full Employment Model- Determination of Real Wage, Interest Rate & Price Level, Demand for Money, Supply of Money, Consumption Function, Investment Function, Inflation, Trade-cycle & Growth, Open-economy Macroeconomics;
  • Statistics & Econometrics: Measures of Central Tendency, Dispersion, Higher Order Moments, Correlation, Theory of Probability, Theory of Statistical Inference, Classical Linear Regression Model (both 2-variable & k-variable cases)- Estimation, Hypothesis Testing & Prediction, Heteroscadasticity, Autocorrelation & Multicollinearity,Simultaneous Equation System & the Problem of Identification;
  • Mathematical Economics: Optimization in Economics (Static & Dynamic), System of Simultaneous Equations and Cramer’s Rule, Input-Output Analysis, Linear Programming, Elements of Game Theory;

Structure of the Entrance Test:

  • The M. Phil. Entrance test is of 100 marks. The qualifying mark is 50%. Duration of the test is two hours.
  • There will be 50 multiple choice questions (MCQ), each of 2 marks. For each MCQ there will be negative marking (1 mark).
  • MCQs will be on Microeconomic Theory (30 marks), Macroeconomic Theory (30 marks), Statistics, Econometrics (20 marks) and Mathematical Economics (20 marks).

Submission of Forms: Completed Application forms except for Education , Sociology, Library & Information Science and Women Studies will be received by the office of the Secretary, U.C.A.C, Collage street campus, Asutosh Building, Ground floor, Room No.3G between 11.a.m. and 3 p.m. on all working days mentioned above. Forms for Education, Sociology and Women’s Studies are to be submitted at the Alipur Campus, 1, Reformatory Street, Kolkata-700027. Forms for Library and Information Science are to be submitted to the concerned Department at Asutosh Building, 3rd floor within 25/09/2014 till 3.00 p.m.

Request for application: Application for the M.Phil Programmes are invited from the intending learners. Applications can be obtained from the Registrar, Alagappa University, Karaikudi – 630 003 on payment of the cost of the application, Rs.500/-(Rupees Five Hundred Only) for SC/ST candidates Rs.250/- (Rupees Two Hundred and Fifty Only) (on production of attested copy of Community Certificate) through a crossed Demand Draft drawn in favour of, „The Registrar, Alagappa University, payable at Karaikudi’ as follows:

Applications can be had in person or through post. For postal mode, the requisition letter and course of study with applicable demand draft must be accompanied.

Down-loaded Application: Candidates can use University web downloaded application and shall enclose the DD for Rs.500/- for Others, Rs.250/- for SC/ST Candidates.

Minimum Marks in the Qualifying Degree for Eligibility for Admission
50% of marks for SC/ST/PWD Candidates
55% of marks for all Other Candidates
Candidates without the minimum marks are totally ineligible

Submission of Application: The candidates should submit the filled in application form to the Registrar, Alagappa University, Karaikudi during the office hours 10am -5.45 pm or by post before the stipulated date. Hall Tickets will be issued by the University. University is not responsible for any delay or loss in postal transit.
