UGC-BSR Research Fellowship at Osmania University – 2015

osmania admissionsThe University Grants Commission, New Delhi has awarded Research Fellowships in Science for Meritorious Students (RFSMS) to the Department of Physics, Osmania University,  Hyderbad-500 007 for the year 2014-2015 under BSR Scheme. Applications are invited for these fellowships in the prescribed form available online at OU  www.osmania.ac.in  from the eligible candidates as per the UGC regulations, 2009 (Notification-Gazetted of India, Dated: 11th July, 2009 and Qualified in NET/SLET/GATE/Ph.D. Admission Test of Osmania University)

Name of the Fellowship: UGC-BSR Research Fellowship

Total No. of Fellowships : 05 (As per the Reservation Policy of the State Govt)

Eligibility for Fellowships: Only those candidates, who are selected for registering to the Ph.D Program of the Department of Physics, under Faculty of Science, Osmania University through a procedure already outlined in the UGC Regulations, 2009 by a regular admission procedure of the University.

Nature of Assistance:
Fellowship = Rs. 14,000/- p.m
Contingency = Rs. 12,000/- p.a
HRA as per University rules.

For GATE qualified candidates:
1st & 2nd year Grant: Fellowship @ Rs. 16,000/- p.m.
Contingency = Rs. 12,000/- p.a
HRA as per University rules

Tenure of Fellowship: The tenure of fellowship is initially for two years. Upon expiry of this period, based on the Satisfactory Assessment Report of the Expert Committee Evaluation on the work of the fellow, the tenure of fellowship will be extended for a further period of three years. The total period of fellowship is for five years, with no further provision of extension.

Other Conditions of Fellowship: The research fellow with the consent of the Guide/Head of the Department may assist the University in its academic work not exceeding 10 hrs per week The academic work includes tutorials, evaluation of test paper, laboratory demonstration, supervision of field work, library activities like group seminars and symposia, provided such work is not likely hinder the research program.

Cancellation of Fellowship: Fellowship is liable to cancellation in case of (i) Misconduct (ii) Unsatisfactory progress of research work / failure in any examination related to Ph D. or (iii) fellow is found ineligible later.

Duly filled Prescribed Application Form with relevant enclosures along with the Demand Draft of Rs.100/- and Rs.50/- (SC/ST/PH category) (Non-refundable) of any nationalized bank drawn in favor of ‘‘The Head, Department of Physics, Osmania University”, payable at Hyderabad should reach to the Office of the Head, Department of Physics, Osmania University on or before 5.00 p.m 10-07-2015.

Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child for PG Programs 2014-16

UGCIn order to achieve and promote girls education, UGC has introduced a Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child with an aim to compensate direct costs of girl education to all levels especially for such girls who happen to be the only girl child in their family.

Eligibility: Any single girl child who happen to be a only child or twin daughter or fraternal daughter in the family , if one son and one daughter is available then girl child will not be considered for scholarship under the scheme. The scheme is applicable to such a single girl child who has taken admission in regular, full-time 1st year Masters Degree course in any recognized university or a post graduate college. This scholarship is available to PG-I year students only.

Applicant will be required to upload scanned copies of the following documents while applying online:
1. An affidavit on Rs. 50/ Stamp paper, from the student/parent duly attested by SDM/First Class Magistrate/Gazatted Officer. Download Prescribed Format
2. A Joining report from College/University where student have taken admission to 1st year PG course. Download Prescribed Format

UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) – June 2014

UGCUniversity Grants Commission (UGC) is inviting applications from eligible candidates for National Eligibility Test (NET) June 2014.

AGE LIMIT & RELAXATION:
i) Junior Research Fellowship: Not more than 28 years as on 01.06.2014. A relaxation upto 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC available on website : www.ncbc.nic.in )/SC/ST/PWD categories and to women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority. Three years’ relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing L.L.M. Degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances.

ii) Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor.

The Application (consisting of one copy of printout of online application form and one copy of Attendance Slip) along with Bank Challan (in original) and other required documents (as mentioned in item No. 13) must reach the Registrar/Principal of the Coordinating Institution on or before 15.05.2014.

UGC PG Scholarships for Professional Courses for SC / ST Candidates – 2013-14

INTRODUCTION
The scheme has been initiated keeping in view the social background of the candidates from the deprived section of the society and to provide them opportunity to undertake postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects like Engineering & Technology, Management, Pharmacy etc. in Indian Universities/Institutions/ Colleges.

OBJECTIVE
The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to 1000 SC/ST candidates to pursue postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects at recognized Indian Universities/Institutions/Colleges.

ELIGIBILITY:
i) The candidate must have obtained Graduate degree in the relevant subject and obtained admission at Postgraduate level for regular full time course in any of the Professional subject in a recognized University/Institution/College.
ii) Candidates pursuing post graduate course in professional subjects by correspondence or by Distance Education mode are not eligible to receive financial assistance under this scheme.
iii) The upper age limit for male applicants is 45 years as on 1st July on the year of application, and 50 years in the case of female candidates. In exceptional cases, the age may be relaxed.

NATURE OF ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE UNDER THE SCHEME:
The number of slots available under the scheme are 1000 per year. The tenure of award is for two/three years depending upon tenure of the postgraduate course.

The financial assistance available under the scheme is as follows:

Scholarship @Rs.5,000/- per month (ME/M.Tech)
@Rs.3,000/- per month for other courses.
Contingency A @Rs.15,000/- per annum(ME/M.Tech)
@Rs.10,000/- per annum for other courses.

Emeritus Fellowship for the Year 2013-14

INTRODUCTION
The University Grants Commission floated the Scheme of Emeritus Fellowship in order to provide an opportunity to the superannuated teachers of universities, colleges and institutions approved under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act who have been actively engaged in research and teaching programmes in the preceding years to undertake research, without any restriction of position or pay scales.

OBJECTIVE
To provide an opportunity to superannuated teachers of all recognized universities and colleges approved under UGC Act, to pursue active research in their respective field of specialization.

TARGET GROUP AND ELIGIBILITY:
Target Group: Highly qualified and experienced, superannuated or likely to be superannuated within 6 months, teachers of recognized universities/colleges/institutions.
Eligibility: The eligibility will be based on the quality of research and published work contributed by the teacher in his/her service career. The awardee (superannuated) can work under this scheme with a well defined time bound action plan upto the age of 70 years or upto two years (non-extendable) of the award whichever is earlier

Nature of Assistance Available Under the Scheme :
1. The number of slots available under the Scheme are 100 for Science streams and 100 for Humanities, Social Sciences and Languages (total 200 Slots) at any one given time basis. The assistance available under the scheme is :
2. Honorarium of Rs. 20,000/- p.m. from UGC. for two years ( non-extendable)
3. Contingency grant (Non-lapsable) of Rs. 50,000/- p.a towards secretarial
assistance, travel within the country connected with the research project, stationery, postage, consumables, books and journals and equipments. However 3 books and journals and equipments etc. procured out of the contingency grant will be the property of the university/college/institute.
4. Foreign visit in connection with the approved research work of the awardee will be limited to once in a year with the prior approval/no-objection of the Institution/University where the project work is being undertaken alongwith that of UGC. This will be further subject to no financial liability on the part of UGC.

Procedure for Applying for the Scheme
The eligible superannuated teachers in universities / institutions can apply any time throughout the year in the prescribed format for the Scheme. (Annexure-I) They are required to send two of their best publications/research works with the application.

The application (two sets of the proposal ) has to be routed through the Registrar/Principal of University/College, the applicant chooses to work with.

University Grants Commission invites online applications for the award of Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child for the academic session 2013-15 with the purpose of supporting post-graduate education through scholarships to such girls who happen to be the only child or girls who are twin daughters/ fraternal daughter in the family.

Candidates admitted in post-graduate first year regular non-professional degree course in any recognized university or a post-graduate college during the current year i.e. 2013-14 are eligible. Students admitted in open universities are not eligible.

Selection will be made by an Expert Committee on the basis of applications which are complete in all respects, received through online mode within the stipulated time frame. The guidelines of the scheme, detailed terms and conditions of the scholarship, eligibility criteria etc. may be seen on UGC website i.e. www.ugc.ac.in

The applications may be submitted only through ONLINE mode latest by 09.12.2013 by logging in website www.ugc.ac.in/sgc

The decision of the Commission with regard to selection of candidates for the award of scholarships shall be final.

NOTE:
1. Applications submitted in hard copy shall not be entertained or considered for award of scholarship in any circumstances whatsoever.
2. Record of candidates, who are not selected, shall not be preserved beyond three months from the date of declaration of results, on UGC website.

Subject: Unrecognized status of IIPM, New Delhi

It is hereby informed to the public at large and students that Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), New Delhi is not a University within the meaning of Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. Further, as per Section 22 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) does not have the right of conferring or granting degrees as specified by the University Grants Commission under Section 22(3) of the University Grants Commission Act. It is further clarified for information that Indian Institute of Planning and Management is neither entitled to award MBA/ BBA/ BCA degree nor it is recognized by UGC.

The public and students are also hereby informed that only those institutions which are established either by a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act or an Institution deemed to be university under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act or an institution especially empowered by Parliament to award degree, can confer or grant degrees which are specified by the University Grants Commission under Section 22(3) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. A list of degrees specified by the University Grants Commission is available on the University Grants Commission website: www.ugc.ac.in for the information of all concerned.

UGC List of Fake Universities in the Country – 2013

PUBLIC NOTICE

Subject: Fake Universities in the Country

The University Grants Commission Act, 1956 casts a duty upon the Commission to take all such steps as it may think fit for maintenance of standards in the field of higher education. As per Section 22(1) of the UGC Act, only a University established by an Act of Parliament or the State Legislature or an Institution deemed to be a University or an Institution especially empowered by an Act of the Parliament is entitled to award degrees. Further, the institutions established as stated above can award only those degrees, which are specified by the UGC under Section 22(3) of the UGC Act, 1956.

Further, the UGC Act prohibits the use of the word “University” by any institution other than a university established by or under a Central or a State Act or a Provincial Act.
In view of the above, students and the public at large are hereby informed that the UGC has identified, so far, the following 21 self-styled, unrecognized institutions in nine states, which are functioning in contravention of the provisions of the UGC Act. All these institutions have been declared as fake and do not have any right to confer or grant degrees.

All such self-styled unrecognized and unapproved institutions are hereby cautioned that running of under-graduate or post-graduate degree courses and giving misleading advertisements shall attract severe action under the provisions of appropriate laws including UGC Act, IPC etc.

The aspiring students are advised/ cautioned not to pursue higher education courses with the above/such institutions. Anyone dealing with such institutions for pursuing academic studies for degrees, shall be doing so at his/her own risk and responsibility.

Students, parents and the general public are, therefore, advised to refer to the UGC website:- www.ugc.ac.in for the “state-wise list of recognized universities” before seeking admission in the Universities/ Institutes. It is also for the information of the general public that the UGC has also uploaded “Public Notice on list of fake Universities” in the UGC website. The AICTE list of fake Universities may also be consulted from the AICTE website: www.aicte.ernet.in for the general awareness so that the students may not seek admission in such Universities/ Institutes as degree obtained from such unauthorized universities is not valid. They are also requested to bring any such illegal and unrecognized Universities/ Institutions to the notice of UGC or other appropriate statutory regulatory bodies/ councils.
