Application Guidelines for April/September 2018

1. Purpose of the Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is twofold: to financially support Self-financed Overseas Students whose academic performance is outstanding and to increase the number of students from abroad.

2. Definition of Self-financed Overseas Students
?Self-financed Overseas Student? is defined in this guideline as an overseas student (person with Status of Residence as ?Student? as specified in the Immigration Control and Refugees Recognition Act [Government Ordinance No. 319, October 4, 1951] Appended Table 1-4) but excluding students receiving Foreign Students Scholarships as specified in Implementation Guidelines for International Scholarship Scheme (March 31, 1954) and students dispatched by foreign governments.

3. Eligibility
All self-financed overseas students with outstanding performance who pass the entrance examination for the Master?s Program at the Graduate School of Science to enroll in April or September 2018. Priority goes to UTRIP(University of Tokyo Research Internship Program) participants. Applicants who are already in Japan are not eligible to apply. As a rule anyone receiving or expecting to receive any other scholarship awards are excluded.

  • As a rule applicants of scholarships from private foundations (including provisional applicants) are not eligible.
  • Applicants for the JASSO?s Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students will not be excluded. However, if accepted for this scholarship, it is expected that the Honors Scholarship from JASSO will be declined.
  • Applicants for the University of Tokyo Foundation for Supporting International Students (including provisional applicants) will not be excluded. However, if accepted for this scholarship, it is expected that the scholarship from the University of Tokyo Foundation will be declined.

5. Monthly Stipend
150,000 yen per month

6. Term of Scholarship
From April/September, 2018 to March/August, 2023

The Standard Program Durations for the Master and Doctoral programs stated in Article 2 of the University of Tokyo Rules on Graduate School will apply.

7. Application Procedure
Applicants should submit the application documents (Section 8) to the International Liaison Office at the Graduate School of Science by post at the time of their Graduate School application for admission into the Master?s Program.

Colombo Plan Scholarship in Engineering – University of Auckland – 2016

The Scholarship was established in 2011 and is funded by alumni of the Faculty of Engineering who studied at The University of Auckland under the Colombo Plan, together with other donors.

The main purpose of the Scholarship is to assist international students who are citizens of Colombo Plan member countries, to study undergraduate or postgraduate engineering programmes at The University of Auckland.

SELECTION CRITERIA
The basis of selection will be academic merit, financial need, community activities, communication skills, leadership potential and desire to contribute positively to the engineering profession.

Decision makers
The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (or nominee), the Deputy Dean of Engineering (or nominee) and an academic from the Faculty of Engineering appointed by the Dean.

How and when do students learn of the decision
Approximately six weeks after the closing date by letter or email.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award

Additional information
The Scholarship will be awarded to an international student who is a citizen of one of the following countries: Afganistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United States of America and Vietnam.
Although Australia is a member country of the Colombo Plan, Australian citizens do not have international student status in New Zealand and so are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Students who have been offered a scholarship must meet all requirements for admission to their programme of study.
The student will be required to pay all other fees and costs inherent in pursuing study at The University of Auckland as an international student.

Algonquin College, Canada International Student Scholarships 2015-2016

This scholarship is for first-year, first-term post-secondary international Algonquin College students and is based on your latest transcripts and a personal statement. Algonquin welcomes highly qualified students from around the world. This scholarship is meant to reward those applicants who have above average grades and English language proficiency.

PROGRAM OUTLINE: There are 16 x $3000 Entrance Scholarships to be awarded to your student account. For Winter 2016 intake; deadline is October 30, 2015.

ELIGIBILITY

  1. You must be an international student, paying full international student fees and not receiving any other scholarships or bursaries.
  2. You must be accepted into your program for the upcoming academic semester and have completed all conditions. (Students in the English for Academic Purposes program leading to post-secondary Algonquin Programs, please refer to the International EAP Student Scholarship program).
  3.  You must submit a completed International Student Scholarship application package

APPLICATION PROCESS:
Step 1: Scan a copy of your English Test results (unless you are from an English speaking country) and academic transcripts.
Step 2: Fill out the application form.
Step 3: Check your inbox for an email.
Step 4: Reply to the email and attach your 500-word statement, and scanned copies of your English test results and academic transcripts.

NOTIFICATION AND PRESENTATION
You will be notified by December 15, 2015 for the Winter 2016 intake. The scholarship will be given as a non-refundable $3000 credit towards your student account. If you are denied your study permit or cannot attend for any other reason, the scholarship amount will return to Algonquin College.

PhD Studentship – Clinical Kinaesiology at Cardiff University, UK – 2015

cardiff_univThis PhD is funded by Cardiff University, School of Healthcare Sciences and will be supervised by Prof Robert van Deursen. This study is carried out in collaboration with the research group led by Dr Ilse Jonkers, University of Leuven within the context of the Partnership between Cardiff University and University of Leuven. Dr Ilse Jonkers is also co-supervisor for this project.

The project primarily takes place at the Research Centre for Clinical Kinaesiology, Cardiff which is a well-equipped movement laboratory; with good clinical links to a number of hospitals in the vicinity and clinical researchers in the area of rehabilitation. Part of the time the student will be working at the University of Leuven to develop the musculoskeletal modelling skills required for completion of the project.

Project title: The implications of movement adaptations in knee patients for joint control and loading

Funding:

  • This studentship consists of full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum (£14,057 p.a. for 2015/16, updated each year).
  • One studentship is available.
  • Additional funding of the value £500 for running costs such as travel expenses is available.

Eligibility

Residency: Full awards (fees plus maintenance stipend) are open to UK Nationals and EU students without further restrictions.

Academic criteria: Essential:  BSc 2:1 or 1st or equivalent in relevant area (Physiotherapy; Sports/Exercise Science/Movement Science). Experience in rehabilitation research and movement analysis; computer programming for biomechanical analysis and musculoskeletal modelling.

Desirable: MSc in movement science/clinical biomechanics/movement analysis

Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarships – University of Waikato – NZ – 2016

waikato_univThe purpose of the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship is to provide support for students to achieve a high academic standard in a programme of study at the University of Waikato, excellence in a sporting code or the creative or performing arts, and to develop leadership qualities through a tailored leadership and personal development programme.

NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: The University determines the maximum number of scholarships available annually.

ELIGIBILITY
1 The Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship is open to both New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and international students .
2 To be eligible for consideration for the award of the Scholarship, applicants must demonstrate:
(a) academic achievement, as defined under section 4 below, and
(b) significant achievement to date and potential to further excel in either
(i) a sporting code, or
(ii) a performing or creative art, and
(c) leadership qualities.
3 Consideration of applications will also be subject to an assessment of:
(a) the alignment of the sport or performing or creative art concerned to the University’s Vision and to the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Programme’s Purpose, and
(b) the University’s capability, in conjunction with relevant local agencies, to provide access to facilities and developmental support appropriate to the sport or performing or creative art.
4 When selecting recipients, the Panel may take into account the applicant’s willingness and ability to fully participate in, and contribute to, the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Programme.

ACADEMIC CRITERIA
1 Applicants who have not previously been enrolled at the University of Waikato or any other tertiary institution must, by 26 February 2016, have:
(a) achieved University Entrance AND admission to their programme of study, OR
(b) achieved by other means, such as the Cambridge International Examinations or the International Baccalaureate examination, a standard of academic achievement deemed by the University to be equivalent to (a) above.
2 Applicants who have undertaken previous tertiary study must have achieved, in the most recent year of study, a standard deemed by the University to be equivalent to a minimum B grade point average in a degree level full-time year of study or equivalent.

APPLICATIONS
1 Applications for the Scholarship must be received by the University of Waikato Scholarships Office on the prescribed form by 18 September in the year preceding the intended year of tenure.
2 Applicants must include with their application:
(a) a curriculum vitae (including a one-page summary of relevant achievements & awards)
(b) a (maximum two-page) personal statement that briefly presents the following:
– best performance to date and why
– future aspirations for creative or sporting endeavours
– leadership & community involvement
(c) a reference from an agency relevant to the sporting code, performing art or creative art concerned, attesting to the applicant’s abilities in that sport or art, potential to further excel, and leadership qualities
(d) a second reference as follows:
a. applicants currently enrolled in secondary school must attach a completed Principal’s assessment form
b. all other applicants must attach a reference attesting to the applicant’s leadership qualities, and ability to maintain academic standards while pursuing his or her creative or sporting endeavours.
(e) where relevant, copies of creative works or recordings of performances (creative / performing arts applicants only). Please note that all dance, screen and media, graphic design, music and theatre studies students are required to submit a USB, DVD or CD containing recordings of performances / examples of work. Other arts applicants may choose to do so if they feel such material would be helpful to the Selection Panel.
(f) an up-to-date copy of their NZQA Record of Achievement or Academic Transcript

VALUE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Scholarship will cover the costs of domestic tuition fees and associated charges. It will be paid directly to the student’s fees account with the University at the time of enrollment.

Academic Excellence International Masters Scholarship – University of Essex – UK – 2015

Our Academic Excellence International Masters Scholarship supports overseas students from specified countries who are funding their own studies at the University of Essex. We are offering a scholarship worth up to £4,000 if your grades in your first degree meet the required high academic standard. All eligible students who meet the required grades will be entitled to receive this award.

Awards will be made on the basis of grades obtained in your first degree, so all applications for relevant courses will automatically be considered. The scholarship is awarded as a partial tuition fee waiver and is available for students on postgraduate taught Masters courses (excluding MBA).

All our relevant course applications, received by the given deadline, will automatically be considered for this scholarship and a fee discount applied to all who meet our grade requirements.

Eligibility

  • These scholarships are restricted to applicants who are overseas fee payers and are entirely self-funded. They are not available to students who are fully or partly sponsored.
  • These scholarships may be awarded to students who have completed relevant school or university studies in the specified countries and whose declared country of residence is that country.
  • Students must have been awarded a first degree with the grade specified or above.
  • Eligible courses are those which are full-time taught Masters courses leading to MA, MSc, LLM, MFA and MRes degrees.
  • Only one scholarship award can be made per student and the award cannot normally be held in conjunction with other University of Essex awards. This scholarship is available for the first year of Masters study only.
  • These scholarships do not apply to deferred entry. Where a student, to whom a scholarship has been offered, requests deferred entry, the award will be considered again in line with the terms and conditions that apply in the new proposed year of entry.

How to Apply:

  • These scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and all academic applications will automatically be considered.
  • The University will use official transcripts and certificates, submitted as part of the original application, as evidence of grades achieved and no alternative supporting evidence will be accepted.
  • Applicants who have firmly accepted an offer of a place by 30 September 2015, and met the academic conditions of entry, will be considered for these scholarships. Applications submitted after that date may be considered depending on availability of funds.
  • Successful applicants will be informed, in writing, by the end of October 2015 of any award to be offered.

These Doctoral Scholarships are tenable by international students for study towards the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Canterbury. Citizens and permanent residents of New Zealand are not eligible to hold the award.

Eligibility
To apply for a UC International Doctoral Scholarship, please use the UC Doctoral Scholarship application form. The very top ranked international applicants who apply for the UC Doctoral Scholarship will be awarded one of the limited number of UC International Doctoral Scholarships available. International students who do not receive a UC International Doctoral Scholarship will be automatically considered for the UC Doctoral Scholarship.

International Excellence Scholarship at Swansea University, UK – 2015

The International Development Office is offering a number of postgraduate scholarships worth £4000 for students from India or Nepal.

You can apply for the International Excellence Scholarships for Postgraduates if you:

  • are a national of (or permanently domiciled in) India or Nepal
  • are classed as an overseas student for fee purpose
  • are enrolling on a postgraduate course at Swansea University for the first time in September 2015 OR have already submitted your application and hold an offer to study at Swansea University in September 2015.
